The Springcourt tennis shoe with a canvas upper and a vulcanised sole was invented by Georges Grimmeisen in 1936. The four infamous ventilation holes in the soles were a later addition to the design in 1952. Worn by the mods in the 60s, Springcourt was also made famous by the likes of John Lennon and Serge Gainsbourg.
