TSPTR Fall 15 focuses on American Counter Culture in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. Joseph Conrad’s ‘Heart Of Darkness’ novel, published in 1899, was a complex exploration of the beliefs people held on what constitutes a barbarian world versus a civilized society and the stance on colonialism and racism that was part of European Imperialism.

The phrase ‘Heart of Darkness’ went on to be applied to a number of events and shifts in the World balance, not least retrospectively to the Native American genocide at Wounded Knee, the explosive racial tension in the American South during the 1960s and of course the Vietnam War, with Coppola’s Apocalypse Now being a modern day translation of Conrads masterpiece. The phrase became synomous with describing a low ebb or windchange in human history.

1960’s West Coast Counter Culture arose as a reaction to these ongoing Imperialist attitudes, in deft opposition to society and the US government, young people chose to drop out and experiment with a new free lifestyle that involved spiritualism, revolution, drugs and advocating human rights.

This TSPTR collection draws from the style and attitude of this counter-culture, combining period authenticity with contemporary design in garments that are made in the UK, Japan, the USA and Europe.

Indigo dyed cotton and denim forms a key theme that runs through the collection alongside Schulz’s iconic Peanuts characters and Americana stalwart Popeye the Sailorman, forming a melting pot of references all of which are blended into one singular aesthetic and message - fight the power.

Mickaël Azoulay created the French brand American Vintage in 2005. Instinctive and curious, he sought his inspiration in the streets of the world. He surrounded himself with a team of designers and reinvented the Basics. He renewed T-shirts that are now part and parcel of any women’s wardrobe. Comprehensive and trendy, the collections are drawn in a pure style with authentic simplicity. In constant search for new materials and skilful blends of natural fibres, the garments are a fine, delicate wrap for the body. The Basics are declined in a richly coloured palette with original pigmentary tons.

American Vintage is really the completion of a style revealed by a vintage touch‚ - inspired by the American trend intermingled with the sand wash jeans image‚ - allied with real womanhood.

The styles are named after American States or American Cities.

The AV lines are designed by a fashion team seeking simplicity, novelty, feminity, easiness and movement. The line is thought as layers that women can combine as they feel.

The colours and materials are carefully chosen by our designers to reflect that feeling of uniqueness and comfort and to reveal women's beauty and creativity.

Whoever understands and is receptive to the concepts of womanhood, freedom and creation will feel attracted to American Vintage.
